CBD, also known as cannabidiol is one of many chemicals found in the cannabis Sativa plant that is known to cure various medical conditions including mental health-related conditions as well. CBD oil is originally made by extracting CBD from a cannabis plant called hemp. Most people prefer CBD as a cure to their mental health conditions like PTSD, depression, and social anxiety. But Does CBD oil remove anxiety? as well?
CBD and its effects on anxiety:
Anxiety disorder is a mental health condition that causes excessive worrying about various problems that are often disproportionate to the facts and events. There is some proven evidence of the benefits of CBD, but not much data available to prove its efficiency. Although, CBD is usually served as a treatment for chronic pain, in recent times CBD has been marketed as a treatment for various other medical conditions as well.
The researchers could not come up with any evidence on CBD’s harmful impact on human health, it is still under study and has not been approved as a treatment yet.
Although various drug administrations are yet to approve CBD as a medication for anxiety, several studies show the effectiveness of CBD as a reductant to social-anxiety disorder and its symptoms. However, it is still not clear how CBD treats anxiety. Some research shows that CBD affects the serotonin level in the brain, which dispenses a calming effect inside the head, and helps calm the severity of your uncontrollable thoughts. Serotonin is a chemical in the human body that controls human mood, sleep, digestion, and behavior. Thus, researchers assume CBD acts as an anti-anxiety medication by regulating the serotonin level in the human brain.
Side Effects of CBD:
Although WHO (World Health Organization) rated CBD as a generally safe and well-tolerated substance that does not appear to build habit forming, it still holds a few adverse side effects. CBD poses a risk during the consumption of other medication as it may interact with other substances and cause harmful or unwanted effects. Studies show, that people who were treated with Epidiolex which is nearly 100% pure CBD, experienced side effects like Insomnia, fatigue, drowsiness, and diarrhea. Thus, healthcare providers advise consulting an expert before using CBD products.
Research on the effect of CBD on the removal of anxiety might look promising, but they are based on very small sample sizes and lacks detailed information on long-term effects. Thus, more research is needed to be done to confirm the proper effectiveness of CBD oil in the removal of anxiety.
